At the heart of the many exciting projects that are taking shape in Dundee just now is the city’s Waterfront development.

And the latest news from the banks of the River Tay is really helping to ring the changes in the city.

That’s because BT Group has started work on a new multi-million pound base.

The new building, on West Marketgait, will replace their old HQ which dates from the 1970s.

It’s is due to be completed in late 2023, and will provide modern and flexible office space for the firm’s 1,000 staff in the city, and is set up for hybrid working.

The Dundee project is part of a wider programme of investment BT is making in its physical infrastructure across the UK, which is also seeing it upgrade its flagship office in Glasgow.

The Dundee development was welcomed by Kate Forbes, Cabinet Secretary for Finance and the Economy, who attended a ground-breaking ceremony at the site.

Ms Forbes said:

“The state-of-the-art facility will provide nearly 1,000 quality jobs that will support individuals, communities and businesses to be better connected, while benefiting from technological innovation. This latest investment reinforces Dundee’s standing as a centre of technological excellence with a highly skilled workforce.”

It’s the latest development for the £1 billion Waterfront regeneration, which will also soon be home to a 4,000 seater esports arena and the Eden Project.

Elsewhere in Scotland, waterfront developments are going from strength to strength.

At Granton in Edinburgh, the redevelopment of the site is well under way, with 3,500 net zero flats being built in a development that will include commercial and cultural spaces as well as a new seafront park.

And in Aberdeen the beach development will bring new life to a popular destination for locals and tourists alike and it could even include a new stadium for Aberdeen FC, who are looking to move from Pittodrie. A number of locations have been proposed for the new ground, but the prospect of staying close to the city centre while benefitting from the beachfront location is proving popular with fans of the club.
