For the third consecutive year the Alliance participated in the largest global event for smart cities in the world, showcasing the unique collaborative approach the Scottish Cities are collectively taking to achieving their Smart Ambitions as part of the Smart Cities Scotland Programme.
In recognition of the significant developments in Scotland this year including the publication of the Smart Cities Scotland Blueprint as well as the Alliance’s groundbreaking “Scotland’s 8th City – the Smart City” ERDF Programme, the Alliance was able to secure and participate in two high profile panel discussions at the Smart City World Congress 2016 in Barcelona alongside international experts and share our learning and experience of cities working collaboratively to develop the smart cities market place in Scotland.
Our attendance at the event enabled the Alliance to strengthen its relationship with existing networks in which it actively participates including the Open and Agile Smart Cities Network and profile Scotland as a test bed for Smart City Solutions via the Department for International Trade’s presence at the event.
The Expo attracted an international audience of 14,000 people this year and the Alliance has ambitions to grow its presence in future years as it develops tried and tested smart solutions which can be exported to solve a range of issues experienced by cities the world over. It is clear that most cities are progressing the development of Smart Cities on an individual basis and therefore the benefits of collaborating on this agenda remains a unique selling point which the Alliance will strive to capitalise on to attract investment to Scotland.
