First investment portfolio for scotland launched

April 10, 2018

The first ever investment portfolio for Scotland has been launched to showcase the wide range of large scale, high-quality and investor ready opportunities on offer.

The Department for International Trade (DIT) presented a range of projects from across the country, representing a variety of sectors and opportunities at the launch at MIPIM 2018 last month. Working with Scottish Enterprise, Scottish Development International and Scottish Cities Alliance, DIT has brought together nine projects with a combined value of more than £1.7bn.

Schemes in Glasgow, Edinburgh, Dundee, Perth and Aberdeen show the breadth and depth of the opportunity across Scotland in the portfolio which was launched by Minister for Investment Graham Stuart.

Among the investment opportunities put forward in the portfolio are Grade A commercial offices, city centre developments and regeneration projects. Projects include:

  • Dundee Waterfront A mixed-use development opportunity in UNESCO’s only UK City of Design worth £500 million.
  • Edinburgh International Business Gateway A mixed-use commercial-led project situated at the entrance to Edinburgh International Airport worth £185 million.
  • Glasgow George Street Complex Situated minutes from Queen Street Station, the project is worth £100 million.

UK Minister for Investment Graham Stuart said:

“The property sector plays a vital role in driving growth across the UK and to support this, DIT will be launching the first investment portfolio for Scotland, with opportunities worth £1.7bn. This year’s MIPIM will be crucial in creating jobs, regenerating towns, providing housing and aiding prosperity across the country.

“As an international economic department, we want international investors to make the most of opportunities and support is available through our flagship Invest in GREAT campaign.”

Scotland has a strong investment offer with a stable and well-respected legal system, a highly-developed financial system, supportive investor-friendly policies and high-performing higher and further education institutions. In 2017, Scotland was the most attractive region in the UK for inward investment after London with total investment spend almost £2.5 billion, £952 million came from overseas investors.

DIT works closely with the Scottish Government, Scottish Enterprise, Scottish Development International, and the Scottish Cities Alliance to ensure a joined up collaborative approach to supporting capital investment into Scotland.
