This report was commissioned as part of a series of work carried out by Optimat Ltd on behalf of the Scottish Cities Alliance, to assist the 8th City Programme’s Data Cluster in understanding the wider demand for open data and how best to maximise value from the publication of open data. The Cluster and Optimat carried out an extensive programme of engagement with a range of stakeholders from over 138 organisations, which included:
- Academic & research organisations
- Private companies
- Trade associations
- Public sector bodies
- Innovation Centres
- Community organisations
This report details the findings of this programme of engagement, which took place between late 2020 and early 2021, along with a number of recommendations for the Data Cluster to take forward. These can be summarised as:
- Creating and maintaining a long-term Cities data working group
- An audit of current and planned open data publications.
- Programme of communication and collaboration with stakeholders around open data publication
It is worth noting, however, that while the final report was being prepared, the 8th City Data Cluster ceased to exist as a discrete body – although work continues within the individual projects of the 8th City Programme with a strong focus on data publication, collaboration, and knowledge sharing as key components of the programme.
