The Station Hotel in Perth is set for a major revamp

Tourists and business travellers from around the world just love coming to Scotland and the number of good quality hotels – where visitors can rest and recharge at a reasonable price – continues to grow.

In Perth, in a prime location next to the railway station, local favourite The Station Hotel is to be renovated and reopened as a Radisson Blu hotel later this year.

The new hotel will have 75 rooms and suites, a restaurant, lobby bar, garden bar, fitness room, treatment rooms, two ballrooms and five large meeting and conference rooms, both providing the necessary amenities for visitors looking for a relaxing weekend as well as meeting the needs of business travellers making use of the hotel in the course of their work.

David Littlejohn, head of planning and development and chief planning officer, at Perth and Kinross Council, said: “The Station Hotel is one of Perth’s most striking and best loved buildings, and I am delighted that it will become part of the Radisson Blu family of great quality hotels. This announcement could not have come at a better time. Perth city centre continues to undergo a cultural renaissance as work progresses to transform the city hall to become an important museum housing the iconic Stone of Destiny, and drawing visitors from across the UK and internationally to the gateway to the Scottish Highlands.”

And Perth isn’t the only Scottish city set to offer a new, top quality hotel to visitors as well as expanding its cultural offering.

In Inverness, the scaffolding has come off the 175-bedroom AC Marriott Hotel, ahead of its planned opening later this year.

With a riverside location, the new hotel, which is on the site of the former Inverness swimming pool, is tipped to attract visitors from abroad, and especially the North American market, who are attracted by the Marriott brand.

As Inverness, too, builds on its cultural offering, with the £18 million Inverness Castle refurbishment now underway and set to transform the castle into a new world class visitor attraction by 2025, an increase in the number of hotels in the city will enable a greater number of tourists to stay and enjoy what the city has to offer than ever before.

As we look forward to the next stage of these developments, it’s fair to say the outlook is bright for the hotel sector, and the wider tourism industry, both in Perth and Inverness.
