Scottish Cities Alliance welcomes Dunfermline as newest city partner

August 26, 2022

Dunfermline, has become the eighth Scottish city to join Scottish Cities Alliance, following its elevation to city status in May 2022 as part of HM The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations.

On behalf of the Alliance partners I am pleased to welcome Dunfermline as Scotland’s newest city to our unique partnership and look forward to working collaboratively to create economic growth and attract new investment in Scotland’s cities for the benefit of Scotland. Scotland’s urban centres are the driving force of the Scottish economy and through collaboration and co-ordination the Alliance has shown that collectively it can respond to some of the really challenging and difficult issues for our cities and bring our collective capacity to bear in a positive way. Dunfermline’s unique approach to using heritage and culture and investment in infrastructure and transport to attract new employment opportunities to the city will be of collective value to the Alliance partners as we work across academia, the private and third sectors to anchor demand and share resource and expertise to maximise economic opportunities as part of Scotland’s Just Transition.”

Cllr John Alexander, Chair, Scottish Cities Alliance and Leader, Dundee City Council

“As a member of the Alliance, Fife Council will be able to access all of the SCA combined resources. This will allow us to more widely showcase our investment opportunities to attract greater investment, create growth and compete internationally. By working together, the Alliance partners are able to share knowledge and create projects on a larger scale which offers us prospects across a wider business spectrum.”

“Attending investment events under the Alliance banner helps to build further on the strengths and opportunities that exist within cities and their regions. Activities will not be restricted to the boundaries of Dunfermline.”

Cllr David Ross, Leader, Fife Council

Dunfermline, located in Fife, is the first new city in Scotland since Perth was awarded city status in 2012.

The Scottish Cities Alliance is the unique collaboration of Scotland’s eight cities (Aberdeen, Dundee, Dunfermline, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Inverness, Perth and Stirling) and the Scottish Government, working together to promote the country’s great economic potential.
