A Burns Supper is one of the most popular annual Scottish cultural events on the calendar – and here at the Scottish Cities Alliance, we celebrated our very own tribute to the Bard on the 25th January at Connected Places Catapult, in partnership with 3Ci.

We were thrilled to announce the launch of 3Ci’s latest report, “Net Zero Future: 3Ci’s Collaborative Journey with Scottish Cities!”. This report showcased 3Ci’s impactful collaboration with the Scottish Cities Alliance, driving sustainable, Net Zero initiatives. It offered a deep dive into our partnership, unveiling flagship projects and outlining investment prospects that underlined our pivotal role in shaping a sustainable future for Scotland and the entire UK. The special celebration took place on day two of our Cities Week event in London. And it promised to be a bash that was not to be missed, as it gave our guests the chance to enjoy a dram or two while meeting and chatting with Scotland’s eight city leaders and other high-profile business figures.

The party had a ‘green theme’. On the menu, along with haggis, neeps, and tatties, there was a great opportunity to discuss net-zero opportunities across Scotland. That’s because the Burns Supper was hosted by 3Ci, a partnership between Connected Places Catapult, Core Cities UK, London Councils, Key Cities, Scottish Alliance, and other local authorities across the UK aimed at supporting local authorities secure the necessary long-term finance for achieving net-zero.

The dinner was hosted by Professor Greg Clark, with a presentation from 3Ci’s director Steve Turner. They took our dinner guests through the important and impressive work that was being done right then in developing green investment opportunities across our cities.

Cllr Ian Yuill, Co-Leader Aberdeen City Council, Ceremonial Remarks

Cllr Ian Yuill, Co-Leader Aberdeen City Council, began proceedings sharing how Aberdeen City Region is at the heart of the global energy transition, as a key player in the energy sector, sharing Scotland’s unique advantage because of the depth of the partnership between the Scottish cities and Scottish Government via the Alliance.

Our guest of honour for the evening was Chris Hayward, Policy Chairman for the City of London Corporation, solidifying the important relationship between Scotland and London, and the celebrations were testament to that mutual co-operation.
