Sumitomo Electric Industries is investing £350m in a high‑voltage subsea and onshore cable manufacturing facility beside the Port of Nigg, supporting ScotWind, INTOG and wider UK and European offshore‑wind development.
The Scottish Government, HIE and Scottish Enterprise are providing £24.5m of public‑sector support. The project includes a 57,500 m² purpose‑built factory, long‑term land leasing and major equipment investment. It will create around 330 jobs, including 265 in the Highlands and Islands.

The investment strengthens UK energy‑transition manufacturing and was strongly supported by the designation of the Inverness & Cromarty Firth Green Freeport.
