ETZ Ltd, the not-for-profit company, tasked with accelerating energy transition across the North East of Scotland, has unveiled plans for a ‘campus model’ to deliver its ambition. The Energy Transition Zone (ETZ) will comprise of a significant majority of revitalised brownfield accommodation alongside a new release of catalytic development sites, providing businesses with the unique opportunity to invest in the largest dedicated energy transition complex in Scotland.
Owing to its oil and gas heritage, the region is home to 75% of the world’s subsea engineering capability and the highest concentration of energy supply chain companies anywhere in the UK. ETZ Ltd is seeking to harness this unrivalled critical mass in skills and expertise to ensure the North East repositions itself as a globally recognised energy cluster focussed on the delivery of net zero.
A comprehensive investment programme is underway to deliver market-ready properties and development sites for high-value manufacturing and the wider energy transition supply chain. This coordinated investment will include the creation of specialist campuses for Marine Development, Offshore Wind, Hydrogen, Innovation, and Skills that will position the region as a global leader in energy transition. In addition, the Community & Energy Coast will include an upgraded publicly accessible Green Network and make significant enhancements to existing green and biodiverse spaces.
ETZ Ltd will support the widespread delivery of new and refurbished commercial property to the Net Zero Exemplar standard. ETZ Ltd will provide clear and attainable guidance to achieve this benchmark through the application of circular economy principles, sustainable building materials, green energy sources and a whole life carbon approach to property.
This approach will mean businesses within the zone benefit from reduced running costs, long-term sustainability, and a unique competitive advantage, helping them to win future contracts within the energy sector.
Within each campus, ETZ Ltd is delivering a catalytic project and will ensure there are property and development opportunities for companies looking to invest within the Energy Transition Zone.
