Glasgow, proud host city of COP 26, is the heartbeat of the Scottish economy and the centre of Scotland’s only metropolitan region. Scotland’s largest city, Glasgow’s total output (GVA) was £22.8 billion in 2019, steadily increasing since 2010.
A dynamic and talented city, Glasgow’s thriving International Financial Services District is already home to some of the world’s blue chip companies including JP Morgan, Morgan Stanley, Barclays and ScottishPower, all attracted by the availability of a deep and wide talent pool to support their future growth.
Glasgow has a higher-level graduate workforce than the national averages of Scotland and the UK with 51.7% of the working age population educated to degree level, the second highest of the UK Core Cities.
Glasgow also boasts a robust business base and well-established infrastructure including world class transport connectivity and a compelling real estate offer. Moreover, Glasgow is well on its way to being the best digitally connected city in the UK with over 5,000km of planned and deployed full fibre digital infrastructure, underpinning Glasgow’s status as a Smart Connected City.
Despite the impact of the pandemic, Glasgow has been recognised as one of the UK’s top 2 fastest growing tech investment hubs.
Glasgow is home to world renowned seats of learning and thriving key sectors from which 3 innovation districts have emerged to drive up growth and innovation through our excellence in life sciences, quantum technologies and advanced manufacturing. A regional innovation accelerator is being developed as part of the UK levelling up agenda which will accelerate the successes of our innovation economy and create the conditions for greater levels of investment.
Of course, the world’s friendliest city also has a thriving cultural scene to keep visitors and residents entertained all year round. From top events, attractions and cultural festivals to the city’s iconic music venues, a diverse and award-winning food and drink scene and the largest retail destination in the UK outside of London, there is plenty on offer.
