What we do

The Scottish Cities Alliance investment promotion workstream has been a mainstay of the Alliance’s work since its inception in 2012.

It is at the very heart of our efforts to drive economic growth as well as create well-paid, high-quality jobs.

How do we do this?

  • We curate events and collateral, showcasing the very best of what our cities and their regions have to offer, the innovative projects they are undertaking, and their ambition and vision for the future.

  • We seek opportunities for city leaders and senior officers to speak at relevant conferences and spread the word about the regeneration and infrastructure investments they are delivering in order to attract private investment and partnerships.

  • We provide a space for the private sector to engage in discussions with city leaders and senior officers and provide an avenue for them to share their insights on how to make the cities and wider Scotland a more attractive location for investment.

The Scottish Cities Alliance, a partnership of Scotland’s eight cities and the Scottish Government, provides unique and unrivalled opportunities for investors to engage directly with city leaders and senior officers from across urban Scotland.

Investment Promotion

Since its inception in 2012, the Alliance has been instrumental in elevating Scotland’s profile among global investors. Not content to rest on our laurels, and recognising the importance of keeping our cities at the forefront of investors’ minds when it comes to making investment decisions, we have consistently taken the powerful Scotland brand directly to the market.

Stakeholder Engagement

One of our unique strengths has been the ability to bring together diverse stakeholders, from local authorities and political leaders to institutional powerhouses and market trailblazers. We also work closely with UK Government and public bodies relevant to the investment space such as 3Ci, the Scottish National Investment Bank, the National Wealth Fund, Scottish Futures Trust, Scottish Enterprise and others on areas of shared priorities. This cohesive approach, coupled with proactive engagement, has made Scottish Cities Alliance the first point of contact for investors interested in our cities.

Public-Private Sector Engagement

We genuinely value the opportunity to discuss our shared vision for our cities with the private sector. Scotland’s city leaders hail from political parties of different stripes, but our Alliance is one of unity and partnership, for the benefit of our cities and for wider Scotland. We collectively acknowledge that the challenges we face, not least delivering on our ambitious net zero targets, building homes for our citizens across all tenure types, and increasing footfall and cultural vibrancy to our city centres, cannot be solved by the public sector alone. Indeed, it is incumbent upon all of us to make the difference, with private capital critical for success. And to achieve this we seek not only one-off investments into standalone projects, but investment at scale into large infrastructure projects and strategic partnerships that will be transformative for Scotland’s economy.

Engage with us

In short, Scotland and its cities are open for business and we invite you to engage with us, via attending our events, signing up to our newsletter, or by getting in touch to start that conversation that could just lead to that lightbulb moment.
