Cllr John Alexander in his capacity as Chair of the Scottish Cities Alliance has been invited to participate in and represent the interests of the Alliance partners in Switzerland for a second year, at a two-part event in Zurich focused on the opportunities linked to decarbonisation.

The event, organised by the British Swiss Chamber of Commerce, will provide a valuable opportunity to strengthen relationships with investors, initiated at last year’s Decarbonising Cities Conference in Bern, who are interested in opportunities arising from Scotland’s transition to net zero.

Through his participation in a programme that includes a Future Cities Exchange and a Sustainability Summit, Cllr Alexander will profile the collaboration taking place across Scotland’s cities to decarbonise as well as outline how the city local authorities in Scotland work with and provide support to citizens and the private sector on their decarbonisation journey. As well as sharing the experience of Scotland’s cities, there will be an opportunity to learn from Swiss counterparts both from the public and private sectors on their transition to a low carbon society.

“I am delighted to be returning to Switzerland to build upon the fruitful discussions arising from the Decarbonising Cities Conference I was pleased to contribute to last year ahead of COP26 taking place in Glasgow. Forums such as the Future Cities Exchange and the Sustainability Summit provide excellent avenues for sharing the message far and wide of the collaborative work taking place across Scotland’s cities in order to meet our ambitious net zero targets, not only from a public policy perspective, but also in how we are engaging with our local communities and with companies both large and small in order to realise these ambitions. I additionally look forward to learning from colleagues in Switzerland, making new contacts and to utilising these lessons and connections for the collective benefit of the Alliance partners.”

Registration is still open for both the Future Cities Exchange and the Sustainability Summit, taking place on 4th October in Zurich, Switzerland and can be accessed via the BSCC’s website.

The Scottish Cities Alliance is the unique collaboration of Scotland’s eight cities (Aberdeen, Dundee, Dunfermline, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Inverness, Perth and Stirling) and the Scottish Government, working together to promote the country’s great economic potential.
